A Child's History Of England

"If you look at a Map of the World, you will see, in the left-hand upper corner of the Eastern Hemisphere, two Islands lying in the sea. They are England and Scotland, and Ireland. England and Scotland form the greater part of these Islands. Ireland is the next in size. The little neighbouring islands, which are so small upon the Map as to be mere dots, are chiefly little bits of Scotland,--broken off, I dare say, in the course of a great length of time, by the power of the restless water..."

206 Bones

Forensic anthropologist Dr. Temperance Brennan is confused as to how she got where she is. Somehow, Brennan is badly injured and tied securely in what appears to be an underground tomb. As she regains her senses, slowly flashes of what happened to her begin to appear in her mind.

Based on an anonymous tip to authorities, Brennan arrived in Chicago with Andrew Ryan of the Serete du Quebec where she is being accused of erring in her autopsy of Canadian heiress Rose Jurmain. Meanwhile back in her Montreal lab, Brennan links Jurmain's death to the brutal murders of other elderly women by a particularly nasty serial killer. As she explores her premise further, she is just beginning to understand she is a trapped rodent in a deadly cat and mouse game.

This is a super thriller that contains several strong subplots; especially intriguing is the challenge to the heroine’s competency from an unknown source who seems to know forensics. Much more personal than usual, the courageous Dr. Brennan feels like a hunted animal who though wounded goes after her predator. Kathy Reichs provides a strong entry in one of the better mystery series of recent years.

Then Bree finds an unexpected friend in Diego, a newborn just as curious as Bree about their mysterious creator, whom they know only as "her". As they come to realize that the newborns are pawns in a game larger than anything they could have imagined, Bree and Diego must choose sides and decide whom to trust. Inkspell

Inkspell (original title: Tintenblut) is a young adult novel by Cornelia Funke. It was named the 2006 Book Sense Book of the Year in the Children's Literature category.
Inkspell is the second novel in Cornelia Funke's Inkworld trilogy. The first novel, Inkheart, (2003) was critically acclaimed and was made into a major motion picture released in January 2009. The third novel, which was recently renamed Inkdeath was released September 28, 2007 in Germany.Inkspell by Cornelia Funke: A year has passed, and as was mentioned at the end of Inkheart, Meggie now lives in Elinor's house along with Darius, her father Mortimer (Mo), and her mother Resa, who is still mute. Life is peaceful, but not a day goes by without Meggie thinking of Inkheart and the characters that came to life. For the fire-eater Dustfinger, the need to return to his homeworld has become urgent. When he finds a crooked storyteller named Orpheus who has the same ability to bring stories to life as Mo, he asks him to read him back. Orpheus obliges, but doesn't send his apprentice Farid back into the book as they arranged; he leaves the three words "and the boy" out, then steals the book from the boy and hands it over to Basta, who still desires revenge for the death of his master, Capricorn. Farid, desperate to rejoin Dustfinger, convinces Meggie to read him into the book so he can warn Dustfinger of Basta, and then become his apprentice once more. But this time, Meggie wants to know how to read herself as well as Farid into Inkheart, or as she thinks of it, "the Inkworld"; reading oneself into a story was previously thought impossible. Meggie, to her utter astonishments succeeds fruitfully to enter the Inkworld unharmed in any way. Meggie's family is heartbroken when they read the note telling them she wants to see the Inkworld, and that she will return.
Soon after the two youths are in the book, Mortola, Basta, Orpheus, and a "man built like a wardrobe" barge into Elinor's house, and take Mo, Resa, Elinor, and Darius prisoner. As per Mortola's orders, Orpheus reads Basta, Mortola, and Mo into Inkheart, but Resa comes with them by accident. Mortola has brought along a rifle from our world, and fatally shoots Mortimer. Resa discovers that her voice has come back to her only as she cries for her husband, praying for him to survive the wound. Resa and Mo are hiding in a secret cave with the strolling players (known also as Motley Folk) while he recovers, but they soon discover (or erroneously assume) that the injured Mo is the mysterious gentleman-robber, the "Bluejay", a fictitious hero created by Fenoglio's words made into song for the Motley Folk to sing. Fenoglio has been living within his own story since the events of Inkheart, working as a court scribe in Lombrica's capital city of Ombra, and once reunited with Meggie he asks her to read Cosimo the Fair back into the story, since he died a death the author never planned for him. This upsets the Adderhead, ruler of the neighboring region of Argenta, whom takes over Lombrica once The Laughing Prince's son, Cosimo, passes away, leaving only Cosimo's widow Violante to rule. With the rightful heir to the throne of Ombra mysteriously brought back to life, a war is imminent. (Summary by Wikipedia)

'Inkheart (original title: Tintenherz) is a young adult-child fantasy novel by Cornelia Funke, and the first book of the Inkworld trilogy.
Inkheart follows the adventures of a 12-year-old girl named Meggie Folchart whose life changes dramatically when she realizes that her father, a bookbinder named Mortimer (Mo), has an unusual ability; when he reads aloud, he can bring characters and items from books into the real world. When Meggie was young Mo read a book called Inkheart, causing Meggie's mother to vanish into the book and allowing Capricorn and his men to escape into the real world. Meggie and Mo's adventure in Inkheart takes them throughout Europe, particularly Italy, and brings them into contact with many unusual characters. The sequel, Inkspell, was released on October 1, 2005, and the third book in the trilogy, Inkdeath was released on September 28, 2007 in Germany. Inkheart by Cornelia Funke: Mortimer (Mo) Folchart is a bookbinder and has the rare gift of reading things and characters out and into books while reading aloud; however, he does not have control over what goes in or out. One night, he reads a book called Inkheart to his wife, Resa. Mo accidentally read Resa into Inkheart and reads characters out of Inkheart (Capricorn, Basta, Dustfinger, and his marten Gwin. Meggie, (3 at the time) has no recollection of this.
Nine years later, Meggie sees someone waiting for Mo, where they live. She informs Mo, who lets the stranger in. The "stranger" stays for a long time. Meggie eavesdrops and thinks that Dustfinger/the stranger is warning Mo about something.
The next morning, Meggie is woken up by her father. He tells her that they were going to see her aunt Elinor, her mother's aunt. Elinor doesn't like children much but Mo told her that she and her aunt would get along well because she too has a vast love of books. After breakfast, Meggie goes into her room to pack a few books to bring with her and discovers Inkheart, the book in brown paper binding her father refused to talk about. When Meggie grows irritated that her father insisted on keeping her in the dark, Dustfinger describes Capricorn as an evil sadist.

One night, Dustfinger persuades Elinor to turn off her burglar alarm so that he can show Meggie his fire eating skills. That same night, Mo and a book are kidnapped by Capricorn's men (including Basta) who take Mo to Capricorn's village, a little town in Italy. Meggie becomes furious when she discovers that Elinor stole the real book just to browse through it and now Mo has been captured with the wrong one. Dustfinger then takes Elinor, Meggie and the real book to Capricorn's village. They arrive and meet Basta for the first time and Capricorn's mother Mortola. Just after their arrival, Meggie realizes that Dustfinger had told Capricorn of their whereabouts and feels instant hatred for trusting him.
Capricorn wants Mo to read out treasure from books. While reading, Mo accidentally reads out a young boy called Farid from the book One Thousand and One Nights. Meanwhile, Dustfinger rescues Mo, Elinor, Meggie and Farid. Farid develops a liking for Meggie.
Now that they have escaped, Elinor tracks down the author of Inkheart (Fenoglio) for Mo, who wants to see if he has any more copies of it. However, Fenoglio doesn't have a copy, his only copy was stolen. He is very interested to hear about Dustfinger, and says that he killed him off in the book . Meggie is horrified and so is Dustfinger.
Elinor returns home to her house only to find no books on their shelves; they are all trampled on the floor. She finds no books in her library at all, only a stone-dead rooster hanging from the ceiling: Capricorn's mark. She looks out of the single open window and finds a pile of ashes, the humble remains of her most prized books. She falls to her knees and weeps.
Meanwhile, Mo goes shopping and Meggie and Fenoglio are accidentally betrayed by Pippo (Fenoglio's eldest grandson, renowned for picking the chocolate chips out of cakes) and captured by Basta and Flatnose. As prisoner, Meggie discovers that she has the gift of reading characters out of books. . Basta finds out when he sees Tinkerbell and Capricorn decides to make her read out his "pet", The Shadow. Mo, Elinor, Farid and Dustfinger plan on saving Meggie. Meggie meanwhile finds a mute maid of Mortola's called Resa who she believes is her mother, apparently read out by Darius. With the help of Fenoglio's writing, Meggie reads out the Shadow and makes him kill Capricorn and most of his men, excluding Basta. However, unfortunately because of the exchanging rule, Fenoglio is read into Inkheart in place of the Shadow. Basta and Mortola escape.
In the end, Dustfinger disappears with Farid and the only copy of Inkheart left, in search of someone to read him back. (Summary by Wikipedia)

Twisted Pretty Little Liars

Twisted is the ninth book of Pretty Little Liars, a series of young adult novels by Sara Shepard.
The book Twisted begins with the girls vacationing in Jamaica and Emily seeing a girl who she believes is Ali. Throughout the rest of the book, details about that fateful vacation emerge. Foggy memories are explained and the girls were attacked by Ali on top of the hotel in Jamaica and so in an attempt to save Hanna, Aria shoved Ali off the edge of the building. A year later, Noel, Aria's boyfriend, has an exchange student come to live with him. Instead of being the nerdy boy, Klaudious, that Noel expected, the exchange student turns out to be a gorgeous blond, Klaudia who Aria believes is attempting to steal Noel...

Twisted by Sara Shepard: Aria decides that she is overreacting and attempts to befriend her. Klaudia explains her horrible attempts to steal Noel and after attacking Aria on the ride up to the hill she was going skiing on, Aria ends up shoving Klaudia, who then slips off the ski lift and breaking her ankle. By that point, Aria and Noel's relationship is shaken and uncertain. Aria didn't want to explain what happened to Noel because she wanted to protect their relationship, meanwhile, Klaudia pretends to forget what happened and continues her façade in the hopes of sleeping with Noel. Meanwhile, Emily meets a new girl, Chloe, who moves into the Cavanaugh's old house. They immediately become good friends, bonding over Chloe's baby sister, Grace. Eventually, Emily reveals that she had a baby girl over the summer because of her fling with Isaac. After having the baby in Philadelphia (her parents have no knowledge of her pregnancy, but her older sister does), she quit swimming because she wasn't physically or emotionally up to it. Emily has now given up hope of getting a scholarship, her only option for college. Chloe's dad offers to help, but also hits on Emily. Chloe walks in on her dad kissing Emily but thinks that it's Emily who is wrecking her family (her father had previously been cheating). Emily didn't tell Chloe, making Chloe hate her...
The girls start to get messages from a new A, and believe it's Ali and that she somehow survived the fall from the building. Hanna's dad runs for senator of Pennsylvania and Patrick, somebody who's helping out at the set, offers Hanna a modeling job. But, he takes some naughty pictures and threatens her with them, saying he will release them to the public and ruin her dad's chances of becoming senator; unless she pays him $10,000. Hanna steals money from her dad and frames Jeremiah, a mean man who is her dad's assistant. Spencer's mom has begun to date Nicolas Pennythistle, the father of snotty Amelia and her brother Zach, in whom Spencer develops a romantic interest. When they go out dancing, she kisses him, only to find out Zach is gay. When the Hastings and Pennythistles travel to New York together, they go out to dinner and Mrs. Hastings and Mr.Pennythistle announce their engagement. Spencer and Zach drunkenly fall asleep in the same bed. During the night, Spencer had kicked off her skirt because she was hot, leaving her in her blouse and underwear. The next morning Mr. Pennythistle wakes Zach by entering the room. Their indecent clothing and close proximity leads Mr. Pennythistle to believe that they had slept together and acts violent towards Zach. Spencer tells him that Zach didn't touch her and that he's gay, hoping to stop Zach's father and her soon to be step-father from pounding on his son, but Mr. Pennythistle becomes furious and sends Zach to military school. Zach and Spencer's friendship ends. Also, the book tells that Spencer has a hidden secret that she clawed her way to the top to get accepted into her dream college; Princeton. It doesn't give any details but it involves a past friend from before Spencer and Ali were friends. In the end of the book, the news turns on and a teenage girl's dead body was found floating in the water in Jamaica. They identify this girl as Tabitha Clark from New Jersey. The cops believe her death was a tragic accident- not a murder. The girls realize they killed an innocent girl... (Summary by Wikipedia)

During trick-or-treating on Halloween night, Greg and Rowley are ambushed by a group of teenagers . They take refuge at Greg's grandmother's house and taunt the teenagers from there by making sounds and faces at them. This upsets Greg's mom, who orders them to come home. They do come home, but get a surprise when they come to the driveway—Greg's father drenches the two friends with a trash can full of water, thinking they were teens (he drenches every teen he sees on halloween, it's his tradition). On Christmas day, Greg writes that he gets very few presents that he likes. He does not get the one thing he really wants, a video game called Twisted Wizard, but instead gets a red sweater because his parents mix the presents up, an 8 x 10 picture of his uncle, and a Big Wheel. Manny gets all the presents that he wanted, making Greg more frustrated. Rodrick gives Greg a "L'il Cutie" book which he hates as much as his father who knows that. Greg slaps a bow on the book, as Rowley loves it. Then Rowley rides a Big Wheel, and Greg accidentally threw a football to the tire of the bike, breaking his arm. At school, Rowley is surrounded by girls because he is injured, which makes Greg mad because he wants more attention from girls. Greg and Rowley join safety patrol, and had to walk the morning kindergartners home. When Rowley isn't there, Greg chases the kindergartners with worms. He is wearing Rowley's hat, and Rowley gets accused of doing the whole thing. When Greg confesses to Rowley, Rowley tattles on him and gets promoted in safety patrol. Rowley and Greg get mad at each other. Slowly, they begin drifting apart and Rowley starts hanging out with Collin Lee; when he goes near Rowley's front yard, walkway, or house. The Lion, Witch, And The Wardrobe

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C. S. Lewis: Edmund sneaks away to the White Witch. Her castle is filled with stone statues; enemies whom she petrified. The beavers realize where Edmund has gone and abandon their home, leading the children to join Aslan. The children and the Beavers meet with Aslan and his army. Peter engages in his first battle, killing a wolf who threatens Susan.
The Witch approaches to speak with Aslan, insisting that according to "deep magic from the dawn of time" she has the right to execute Edmund as a traitor. Aslan speaks with her privately and persuades her to renounce her claim on Edmund's life. That evening, Aslan secretly leaves the camp, but is followed by Lucy and Susan. Aslan has bargained to exchange his own life for Edmund's. The Witch ties Aslan to the Stone Table and then kills him with a knife. The following morning Aslan is restored to life; for unbeknownst to the witch, "deeper magic from before the dawn of time" allows someone who willingly dies in the place of another to be returned to life.
Aslan allows Lucy and Susan to ride on his back as he travels to the Witch's castle, where he breathes upon the statues and restores them to life. Peter and Edmund lead the Narnian army in a battle against the White Witch's army, and Aslan arrives with the former statues as reinforcements. The Narnians rout the evil army, and Aslan kills the Witch.

He soon learns to live the profligate life of a gentleman as he gradually sheds his associations with the gentle souls of his past, Joe (the blacksmith) and Biddy (a level-headed young lady). He throws his money at improving the prospects of his roommate and friend Herbert and his heart at an "ice princess" whose heart will never respond. But then an escaped convict from his distant past comes calling, and all Pip's hopes dissolve. (Summary by Mark F. Smith)

Point Blanc

Point Blanc by Anthony Horowitz: Upon arriving at Point Blanc, Alex Rider befriends a student who goes by the name of James Sprintz. James thinks something is wrong with the academy because the other boys were rebellious before and then suddenly became complacent. One day, James is taken and replaced with a look-alike who is no longer rebellious. The following night, Alex Rider examines the forbidden third floor to find replicas of the boys' rooms upstairs, with TV screens monitoring the boys' behaviour downstairs. Following later investigations, Alex's finds the real boys locked in a basement jail. Alex sees James and tells him the truth, his identity and the reason why he was sent to Point Blanc. A teacher named Mrs Stellenbosch overhears this and knocks Alex unconscious, captures him and turns him over to Dr. Grief, who then reveals his plan to take over the world, named "Project Gemini".
In the 1980s, Grief cloned sixteen copies of himself in his home country of South Africa (where he greatly supported the apartheid regime). While the real boys are at Point Blanc, a plastic surgeon named Baxter surgically alters Grief's 14-year-old clones to resemble them. Soon, the clone and the real boy are swapped. The replica rooms are used by the clones to imitate the boys' behaviour so the parents will not notice that they have been swapped. When the parents die and pass on their inheritance, Dr Grief will take the assets from the clones. Eventually, he will be the most powerful man in the world, and reinstate apartheid globally... To Kill A Mockingbird

Harper Lee's novel To Kill a Mockingbird takes place during three years of the Great Depression in the fictional "tired old town" of Maycomb, Alabama. The narrator, six-year-old Scout Finch, lives with her older brother Jem and their widowed father Atticus, a middle-aged lawyer. Jem and Scout befriend a boy named Dill who visits Maycomb to stay with his aunt for the summer. The three children are terrified of, and fascinated with, their neighbor, the reclusive "Boo" Radley. The adults of Maycomb are hesitant to talk about Boo and for many years, few have seen him. The children feed each other's imaginations with rumors about his appearance and reasons for remaining hidden, and they fantasize about how to get him out of his house. Following two summers of friendship with Dill, Scout and Jem find that someone is leaving them small gifts in a tree outside the Radley place. Several times, the mysterious Boo makes gestures of affection to the children, but, to their disappointment, never appears in person.
Atticus is appointed by the court to defend a black man named Tom Robinson, who has been accused of raping Mayella Ewell, a young white woman. Although many of Maycomb's citizens disapprove, Atticus agrees to defend Tom to the best of his ability. Other children taunt Jem and Scout for Atticus' actions, calling him a "nigger-lover". Scout is tempted to stand up for her father's honor by fighting, even though he has told her not to. For his part, Atticus faces a group of men intent on lynching Tom. This danger is averted when Scout, Jem, and Dill shame the mob into dispersing by forcing them to view the situation from Atticus' and Tom's points of view.

The Outsiders

The Outsiders is a coming-of-age novel based in 1965 by S. E. Hinton, first published in 1967 by Viking Press. Hinton was 15 when she started writing the novel, and 18 when it was published. The book follows two rival groups, the Greasers and the Socs (pronounced by the author as "so-shez", short for Socials), who are divided by their socioeconomic status.
A film adaptation was produced in 1983.
Ponyboy Curtis and his brothers, Soda and Darry, belong to a gang of lower-class youth called the Greasers in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 1965. They often fight with the Socs, a group of wealthy, privileged boys. Ponyboy is a shy, quiet 14-year-old boy who gets good grades and likes to draw and read. Sodapop, the middle brother, is handsome and gets along well with the other Greasers. Darry, the oldest brother, has been caring for his brothers since their parents died in a car crash. He is very serious, works most of the time, and often yells at Ponyboy. Darry is athletic and was a good student, but he had to give up his education to care for his brothers so that they wouldn't have to separate and go to an orphanage. Dallas (Dally) Winston is the roughest of the Greasers, having lived on the streets of New York City for three years. He seems to enjoy being a criminal and thinks that the law is a big joke. Two other Greasers are Two-Bit Mathews, who has a prodigious sense of humor, and Steve Randle, Sodapop's best friend. Finally, Johnny, the pet of the Greasers and 16 years old, is Ponyboy's closest friend and lives with his alcoholic and abusive mother and father. Johnny was jumped and beat up by a Soc wearing heavy rings. Ever since then, Johnny has been paranoid about the Socs and always carries a switchblade.

Twilight

Twilight by Stephenie Meyer: Isabella "Bella" Swan moves from sunny Phoenix, Arizona to rainy Forks, Washington to live with her father, Charlie, while her mother, Renée, travels with her new husband, Phil Dwyer, a minor league baseball player. Bella attracts much attention at her new school and is quickly befriended by several students. Much to her dismay, several boys compete for shy Bella's attention.
When Bella is seated next to Edward Cullen in class on her first day of school, Edward seems utterly repulsed by her. He disappears for a few days, but warms up to Bella upon his return; their newfound relationship reaches a climax when Bella is nearly run over by a fellow classmate's van in the school parking lot. Edward saves her life when he instantaneously appears next to her and stops the van with his bare hands.
Bella becomes determined to find out how Edward saved her life, and constantly pesters him with questions. After a family friend, Jacob Black, tells her the local tribal legends, Bella concludes that Edward and his family are vampires who drink animal blood rather than human. Edward confesses that he initially avoided Bella because the scent of her blood was too desirable to him. Over time, Edward and Bella fall in love.
Their relationship is disturbed when another vampire coven arrives in Forks. James, a tracker vampire who is intrigued by the Cullens' relationship with a human, wants to hunt Bella for sport. The Cullens attempt to distract the tracker by splitting up Bella and Edward, and Bella is sent to hide in a hotel in Phoenix. There, Bella receives a phone call from James, who claims to be holding her mother captive. When Bella surrenders herself, James attacks her. Before she is killed, Edward, along with the other Cullens, rescues her and defeats James. Once they realize that James has bitten Bella's hand, Edward successfully sucks the poison from her bloodstream and prevents her from becoming a vampire, after which she is brought to a hospital. Upon returning to Forks, Bella and Edward attend their school prom and Bella expresses her desire to become a vampire, but Edward refuses. (Summary by Wikipedia)
